1996 Ford Contours and Mercury Mystiques Recalled
Washington, DC (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration today published the recall of certain 1996 Ford Contours and
Mercury Mystiques manufactured between February 1996 - March 1996 because the fuel filler
pipe vent hose may have less than the intended level of ozone resistance, which could
result in the hose becoming brittle and cracking. A cracked hose could result in fuel
leakage during vehicle refueling.
Approximately 22,000 vehicles are affected by this
Dealers will install a fuel filler vent hose
contacting the appropriate blend of PVC and nitrile rubber.
Owner notification began Oct. 29, 1999.
Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a
reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.
