1996 Ford Contours and Mercury Mystiques Recalled

Washington, DC (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today published the recall of certain 1996 Ford Contours and Mercury Mystiques manufactured between February 1996 - March 1996 because the fuel filler pipe vent hose may have less than the intended level of ozone resistance, which could result in the hose becoming brittle and cracking. A cracked hose could result in fuel leakage during vehicle refueling.

Approximately 22,000 vehicles are affected by this recall.

Dealers will install a fuel filler vent hose contacting the appropriate blend of PVC and nitrile rubber.

Owner notification began Oct. 29, 1999.

Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.

your dealer will know about them. If you have a vehicle
affected by one of these posted recalls be sure and
write down the NHTSA
CAMPAIGN ID Number.
If your dealer doesn't know about the recall when you
check, ask them how they are notified of recalls and
when the next update is due.
