Ford Recalls 1997 - 2000 Lincoln Navigators

Washington, DC (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Ford Motor Company have announced the recall of certain 1997 to 2000 Lincoln Navigators because the trailer hitch assembly to the frame attaching bolts could lose the clamp load.  The trailer hitch could then separate from the vehicle.

About 570,000 vehicles, manufactured between July, 1996 and December, 1999, are affected by this recall.  Dealers will replace the trailer hitch mounting bolts and nut plates.

Owner notification is expected to begin April 24, 2000.  Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
