General Motors Corporation Has Recalled the 2002
Saturn S Series
Has Recalled the 2002 Saturn S Series because the brake pedal pad could
separate from the brake pedal actuator arm.
Number Involved: 1,509
Dates of Manufacture: January – February 2002
Defect: Some passenger vehicles equipped with automatic transaxles were
assembled with an inadequate weld at the brake pedal pad to pedal actuator
arm assembly. During braking, the brake pedal pad could separate from the
brake pedal actuator arm. If this were to occur, the driver’s foot could
become dislodged from the pedal, resulting in a loss of brake system
application, and a vehicle crash could occur.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the brake pedal
assembly. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began Feb.
19, 2002. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time
should contact Saturn at 1-800-553-6000, Prompt #3.
