(SafetyAlerts) -  Utilimaster Has Recalled 1996 WALK-IN VAN because the belt buckle could eventually detach from the cable in the event of an impact.

Defect Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: WALK-IN VANS EQUIPPED WITH SEAT BELT BUCKLES MANUFACTURED BY INDIANA MILLS & MANUFACTURING INC. AFTER REPEATED FLEXING, THE CABLE CAN FATIGUE AND FRAY AT THE POINT WHERE IT IS CRIMPED TO THE BUCKLE.

Consequence Summary:
THE BUCKLE COULD EVENTUALLY DETACHED FORM THE CABLE IN THE EVENT OF AN IMPACT, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT.

Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. UTILIMASTER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT UTILIMASTER AT 1-800-582-3454
