DaimlerChrysler Corporation Has
Recalled 1990 Jeep Wrangler
Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) -
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published
a recall affecting the 1990 Jeep Wrangler.
Potential Number of Units Affected: 316,148
Manufactured: 7/1989 - 12/1995
Defect Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH
MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THE PARKING BRAKE CAN SELF-RELEASE WITHOUT WARNING.
THIS COULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY WITH A STRONGER PAWL
RETURN SPRING. DAIMLERCHRYSLER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED NHTSA WITH AN OWNER
NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED
DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY
WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.
