1999 Dodge,  Chrysler and Jeep Cars, Trucks, Suvs and Minivans Recalled

Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a recall affecting certain 1999 Dodge Dakota, Durango, Ram, Intrepid, Caravan, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler Concorde, LHS and Town and Country vehicles.  The affected vehicles were manufactured between December 1998 and January 1999.

Certain van, wagon, passenger, light trucks, and sport utility vehicles, fail to comply with requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 209, Seat Belt Assemblies.

The front seat belt retractor does not comply with the requirements of the standard. If the retractor does not work properly, it will not adequately protect occupants in the event of a crash.

161,682 automobiles are affected by this recall.

Dealers will replace the seat belt retractor.

The manufacturer has not yet provided NHTSA with an owner notification schedule.
