Certain 2001 Voyager, Town & Country, Caravan and Grand Caravan Minivans Recalled

Auburn Hills, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The Chrysler Group is recalling certain 2001 model year Chrysler Voyager and Town & Country minivans and Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan minivans to replace part of the lock mechanism.  The recall affects vehicles equipped with key cylinders on the sliding doors, minivans factory-equipped with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) are not affected by this action.

Crash testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has shown that, under certain conditions, a severe side impact can cause the key cylinder mechanism on the sliding doors to contact the door release system, causing the door to become ajar.

As a result of these findings, the Chrysler Group has decided to voluntarily contact customers and recommend that they bring in their vehicles for the improvement action. Customers will be notified by mail or they may contact their dealers directly.

An easy way to determine if a vehicle is affected by the improvement action is the presence of a key hole on the sliding door handle.
