2000-2001 Mazda Protégé Recalled
Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a recall affecting the 2000-2001
Mazda Protégé automobiles. The affected automobiles were manufactured between July
and December 2000.
On certain passenger vehicles, the left side rear
brake hoses were damaged during assembly. Brake fluid leakage could occur, and brake
performance would be degraded, increasing the risk of a crash.
13,000 automobiles are affected by this recall.
Dealers will inspect the brake hose and, if
necessary, replace the hose.
The manufacturer has reported that owner
notification was to begin during March 2001. Owners who do not receive the free remedy
within a reasonable time should contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500.
