2000 Mazda MPV Minivans Recalled

Detroit, MI  (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Transportation Administration (NHTSA) has published the recall of certain 2000 Mazda MPV automobiles because certain minivans equipped with original equipment 16-inch tires do not have the correct recommended cold inflation pressure on the label.

This does not comply with Section 5.1.2 of FMVSS No. 120, "Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles other than Passenger Cars."

19,526 of these vehicles, manufactured between March 1999 through March 2000 are affected by this recall.

Owners will be sent accurate tire information labels and owner manual inserts. In addition, owners of MPV's with 16-inch tires will be advised to check their tire pressure to make sure that the tires are inflated to 35 psi.

In addition to the recall above, other 2000 Mazda MPV minivans do not have tire information labels that comply with Section 5.3 of FMVSS No. 120, "Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles other than Passenger Cars."

Owners will be sent accurate tire information labels and owner manual inserts.

The manufacturer has reported that owner notification will begin during June 2000 Owners who do not receive the tire information labels and owner manual inserts within a reasonable time should contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500.
