Transmission Mustangs
Dearborn,
MI (SafetyAlerts) - Ford Motor Co.
said today in a statement that it would recall more than 432,000 1994-2001 Ford Mustangs
with manual transmissions to fix a problem with the parking brake.
Ford said a misalignment in the parking brake could cause it to slip while engaged,
potentially allowing the vehicle to move. The company stated it had no reports of any
accidents, injuries or deaths because of the problem.
The Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker said that the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) had 300 reports of unintended vehicle movement, but Ford did not
know if any of those were related to the misalignment in the parking brake.
Ford will notify Mustang owners by mail in November and December about the recall.
