Ford and GM Recall 23 Models of Year 2000 Cars, Trucks, Minivans and SUVs

Washington, DC (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published the recall of certain model year 2000 Ford and GM vehicles equipped with TRW seat belt buckle assemblies.  The buckle base of these seat belts were not properly heat treated, and therefore do not pass the load bearing requirement of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 209, "Seat Belt Assemblies.

All vehicles affected by this recall are year 2000 models. The recalled vehicles are:


Blazer, Impala, Lumina, Monte Carlos, and Ventures.


Contour, Escorts, Explorer, F-150 pickups, Ranger and Windstars.

Town Cars

Mystique, Mountaineers and Villagers.

Bravada, Intrigue and Silhouettes.

Grand Prix and Montanas.


Ford has not yet provided a planned remedy or an owner notification schedule for this campaign.

GM Dealers will inspect the vehicle's rear safety belt buckle assembly date codes and, if necessary, will replace any rear safety belt buckle assembly.   GM Owner notification was expected to begin during August 2000.

Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673, Buick at 1-800-521-7300, Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, Oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537, Pontiac at 1-800-762-2737. or Saturn at 1-800-553-6000.
