Chevrolet Recalls about 70,000 Corvette Sports Coupes
Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway
Transportation Administration (NHTSA) has published the recall of certain Chevrolet
Corvette sports coupes because the lap belts can become unusable.
According to NHTSA the lap belt webbing
can twist allowing the webbing to become jammed in the retractor. When the belt
webbing becomes jammed in the retractor, the belt may be unusable.
Vehicles manufactured between October 1996 through
August 1999 are affected by this recall.
Dealers will install inserts to the belt web guide
of each lap belt retractor. Owner notification is expected to begin during May 2000.
Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and
do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chevrolet at
