2001 Ford Windstar, Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car and Mercury
Grand Marquis Automobiles Recalled
Detroit, MI (SafetyAlerts) - The National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has published a recall affecting the model year
2001 Ford Windstar, Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car and Mercury Grand Marquis
automobiles, manufactured between March - September 2000.
Certain passenger vehicles and minivans
were built with a newly designed restraint control module (RCM). In some cases, the RCM
does not recognize certain system faults that could result in an air bag or seat belt
pre-tensioner unexpectedly activating during the self-test sequence at vehicle start-up.
This condition could result in personal injury.
18,500 automobiles are affected by this recall.
Dealers will replace the RCM in these vehicles.
The manufacturer has reported that owner
notification began Oct. 2, 2000. Owners who do not receive the free remedy within a
reasonable time should contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.
